What Does it Cost?

The fees / subscriptions for lodge membership vary between Lodges depending on location and the number of meetings each Lodge holds in the year.

At Hope Valley there is a joining or initiation fee of £50.00. Additionally, there are some initial administration fees which we have to pay to United Grand Lodge of England (£76.80) and Provincial Grand Lodge of Derbyshire (£5.00). On the night of your initiation you will be expected to pay all these fees plus a proportion of the annual subscription depending on the number of meetings left in our masonic year including the night of your initiation.

The annual subscription for Hope Valley is currently £200.00. This includes the Dore Masonic Hall, Provincial Lodge and UGLE annual fees.

Following each meeting there is a meal, which we call a ‘Festive Board’. A typical 3 course meal is £20.00. Additionally there’s the cost of any drinks you may buy from the bar and any raffle tickets you may purchase. Similarly there are any other charity donations you may wish to make. The latter is entirely up to you to give what you feel you can reasonably afford.

For your 3rd Degree ceremony you will need a Master Mason’s Apron and a pair of white gloves. Typically this will cost you £40 to £50. (Aprons for the 1st and 2nd Degree ceremonies are provided for you by the Lodge).

As you progress you may need to buy additional regalia – A Worshipful Master’s Apron is about £40 to £50 and should you go on to join Chapter, the Companions Apron, Sash and Jewel will set you back about £70 to £80.

All these regalia prices are for new items, but there are many sources of excellent quality second hand. Hope Valley Lodge keeps a small stock of this kind of regalia donated by members who have progressed and can be purchased for a donation to charity.
